Navigating Our Children’s Deep Emotions.

An Interactive Workshop to Enhance Understanding and Connection for Parents

Overview

The Navigating Our Children’s Deep Emotions Workshop equips parents with the insights and skills needed to support their children effectively while maintaining their own emotional balance. This transformative experience offers valuable tools to nurture parental well-being and deepen the parent-child connection, especially during challenging moments.

Why it Matters

Parenting is deeply emotional work. When our children face struggles or conflicts, it can stir powerful feelings within us — sadness, guilt, anger, or even hopelessness. These emotions reflect the deep love and desire to protect our children from hardship. However, challenges and emotional struggles are part of every child’s growth journey.

Balancing our emotional reactions with the need to support our children raises key questions:

  • Which emotions belong to us, and which belong to our children?

  • How can we navigate emotional challenges with grace and resilience without escalation?

  • How can we stay present and supportive while holding space for self-care?

  • What boundaries can help create healthier emotional dynamics?

By exploring these questions, parents can become the grounded, emotionally supportive figures their children need, while also prioritizing their own well-being. Research from the Journal of Family Psychology shows that emotionally supportive parenting helps children develop better emotional regulation, reducing anxiety and depression.

Further studies support this approach:

  • Active listening creates emotional safety, fostering better parent-child communication (Journal of Child and Family Studies).

  • Somatic self-regulation practices, such as mindfulness and grounding, reduce stress and enhance emotional resilience (Mindfulness Journal).

  • Modeling emotional regulation equips children with lifelong coping skills (Clinical Psychology Review).
